The Ph.D. program at Graduate Institute of Precision Manufacturing has implemented the teaching method of “theory and practice integration” since the program was approved by Ministry of Education in 2011. It has especially focused on integration technology. A student in the Ph.D. program are required to have the ability to conduct or implement an industry-academy cooperation project independently before his or her graduation, and shall have certain implementation results. In 2017, the Ph.D. program in “Intelligent Machinery and Smart Manufacturing” was also approved by Ministry of Education. The program focuses on development of intelligent machinery and smart manufacturing and cultivates the high-ranking R&D talents required by enterprises. The development direction and focus of the Ph.D. program are precision manufacturing and precision machinery in the machine tool industry and the optoelectronic industry. Precision manufacturing focuses on ultra-precision machining, optical component manufacturing, and manufacture of relevant materials. Precision machinery focuses on R&D of precision machine tools, including common basic technology of machine tools, and development of CMP grinders and intelligent machine tools. The Institute requires its graduates to have adequate language ability to read scientific literature, plan for research projects and solving problems. The Institute and its teachers are intended to cultivate high-ranking R&D talents for the country in key industries and further assist relevant domestic industries in enhancing their R&D ability and strengthening their product competitiveness.
